The Arctic Council meets in Iceland

The Arctic Council met yesterday 20th of May in Reykjavik, an international forum that discusses the problems of Arctic governments and indigenous peoples of the territory.

The forum brings together the member states (United States, Canada, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland) represented by their respective foreign ministers with the Atlantic alliance’s main ally, Russia, which has just taken over the presidency.

During the meeting, Russia presented images of its northernmost military base located in the remote archipelago of the Land of Franz Josef in the Arctic Ocean. The presence of the base is at the center of a heated debate with the United States.

Representing Italy, which participates in the Forum as an observer Member State, Undersecretary Della Vedova presented Italy’s vision and commitment in the region in a video intervention.
