He has taught for several years at the University of Nice and since 2019 at the Italian branch of Stanford University. He is the scientific director of the Medì Study Center (Migrations in the Mediterranean) in Genoa, where he directs the magazine «Mondi migrant» and the Summer School of Sociology of Migrations. He collaborates with «Avvenire» and with lavoce.info. Since July 2017 he has been part of the CNEL, where he is responsible for the body coordinating policies for the integration of foreign citizens.
