The IX edition of the Diplomacy Festival was dedicated to reflection on the forces that, at a territorial and systemic level, in foreign policy, determine both changes in the balance between powers and current geopolitical conditions, without excluding those factors that increasingly escape to state control.<\/p>\n

But what does really affect development, growth and world balance outside the control of governments? The factors are complex. Demography, climate, religion and extremism, digitalization, scientific research, investment funds, lack of natural resources, migration, space race, culture, sport, organized crime, terrorism, without underestimating the importance that technology holds at this moment, both in the field of IT security and infrastructures. This leads to a rethinking of the concept of globalization.<\/p>\n

Quoting Baumann (retrotopia): globalization requires us that “all” are “us” and there are no longer “them”. Sustainable utopia requires that “us” also includes our planet, that we do not build walls but bridges, that we stop defending ourselves and try to take a leap. Of course this possibility creates fears because technology imposes changes at a speed that has been unknown until now, determining the new geopolitics, causing production to be concentrated in some countries. Hence the need for diplomacy to become the bearer of values, especially in the European field.<\/p>\n
