Head of the Department for Civil Liberties and Immigration<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Valerio Valenti, born in Trapani on 3 October 1958, began his career in Genoa in January 1986 at the Government Commissariat in the Liguria Region with the role, also, of effective member in the Regional Commission for Control over the acts of the Municipalities of the Province of Genoa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Having returned to the roles of the Civil Administration of the Interior in April 1990, he was assigned to the Prefecture of Trapani where, in the nine years of his stay, he managed many administrative services and offices as well as the provincial Electoral Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Between 1997 and 1998 he was a member of the Commission for the extraordinary administration of the Municipality of Campobello di Mazara, dissolved due to mafia infiltration and of the Access Commission for the dissolution of the bodies of the Municipality of Mazara del Vallo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In June 2000 he was transferred to the Prefecture of Piacenza where he took on the role of Chief of Cabinet and then held the role of Head of the Private Secretariat of the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior from April 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Promoted Vice Prefect in 2001, from April 2006 to January 2010 he was Chief of Cabinet of the Prefecture of Florence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From February 2010 to April 2012 he acted as Deputy Vice Prefect of the Prefecture of Venice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among his various professional experiences, participation in the 1997 Umbria earthquake emergency and in the “Rainbow Mission” in 1999, at the Comiso (Rg) camp, on the occasion of the huge exodus of refugees from Kosovo. And again, in 1999, Extraordinary Commissioner for the provisional administration of the Municipality of Villanova sull’Arda (Pc), then member, in the five-year period 2002\/2007, of the Board of Directors of the Regional Section for Sicily of the former autonomous Agency for the management of the Register of Municipal Secretaries and, in 2005, of the Commission for the extraordinary administration of the Municipality of Tufino (Na).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first half of 2012 he chaired the Access Commission for ascertaining the conditions for the dissolution of the bodies of the Municipality of Reggio Calabria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Appointed Prefect on 23 March 2012, he carried out the functions of Government Commissioner for the Province of Bolzano until 8 January 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From 9 January 2014 to 21 June 2015 he held the position of Central Director for general affairs and for the management of financial and instrumental resources within the Department for Civil Liberties and Immigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was also, in 2014, President of the Mission Group of the Ministry of the Interior for the semester of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From 22 June 2015 to 28 May 2017 he carried out the functions of Prefect of the province of Brescia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From 29 May 2017 to 3 February 2019 he carried out the functions of Prefect of the province of Brindisi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From 3 February 2019 to 5 November 2021 he carried out the functions of Prefect of the province of Trieste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since 6 November 2021 he has carried out the functions of Prefect of the province of Florence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
