The World Youth Orchestra was born in Rome in September 2001 as a cultural diplomacy project, thanks to an idea by Damiano Giuranna and the collaboration with dozens of universities, academies and conservatories on the five continents, supported by institutions such as the European Union, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Sapienza University of Rome. For its political-institutional successes, the World Youth Orchestra was named Goodwill Ambassador by UNICEF Italy; the President of the Italian Republic awarded her the Silver Medal and Plaque for cultural and social merits and the Presidential Medal. The project’s objectives are to bear witness to the ideals of peace and brotherhood and to develop the artistic talent of young people. The World Youth Orchestra represents how art, in particular music, can be, in the third millennium, not only a cultural necessity, but above all a powerful instrument of cultural diplomacy, peacekeeping and communication of values \u200b\u200band ideas.
