In In 1999 he became Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Republic, Jorge Sampaio. In 2007 he was Deputy Coordinator of the Portuguese Presidency of the EU for the Middle East peace process. He was Ambassador to Dublin from 2012 to 2017. In 2017 he became Diplomatic Advisor and Sherpa to Prime Minister Ant\u00f3nio Costa. He was Ambassador in Rabat from January 2020 to January 2023. He has been Ambassador in Rome since January 2023, also accredited as non-resident Ambassador to Malta, Albania and San Marino, and Permanent Representative to FAO, WFP and IFAD. He is the author of the volumes A Diplomacia de Salazar (1932-1949), Crep\u00fasculo do Colonialismo: A Diplomacia do Estado Novo (1949-1961) and Orgulhndosi S\u00f3s, as well as numerous articles on Portuguese foreign policy and international relations.
