Tourism is one of the sectors most affected by the pandemic. It employs around 27 million people and represents around 10% of the EU’s GDP, but there are currently six million jobs at risk. Europe, the world’s leading tourist destination, received 66% fewer international tourists in the first half of the year and 97% fewer in the second. The pandemic has changed consumer preferences for greener options that are more in touch with nature. For this reason, the creation of a roadmap is requested to develop more sustainable forms of tourism that are able to reduce the environmental impact of the sector.
