Andrea Brandolini is Deputy Head of the Economics and Statistics Department of the Bank of Italy. He is a member of COMSTAT and of the presidential council of the Italian Economic Society. He was chairman of the Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payments Statistics (CMFB) and a member of the Bureau of the European Statistical Forum (ESF) and of the Statistics Committee (STC) of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB). He chaired the Istat study commission on the methodology for estimating absolute poverty and was a member of the Istat scientific commission for the measurement of well-being and of the Istat scientific committee. He represented the Bank of Italy in various poverty investigation commissions. He was the Italian representative in the Luxembourg Income Study and was a member of the World Bank’s Commission on Global Poverty. He was president of the International Association for Research on Income and Wealth (IARIW) and served on the board of the Society for the Study of Economic Inequality (ECINEQ). For his studies on income inequality he received the Aldi Hagennars LIS Memorial Award from the Luxembourg Income Study and the Luigi Tartufari International Award from the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
