Enrico Giovannini is an Italian economist, statistician and academic, since 13 February 2021 Minister of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility in the Draghi government.

He was Chief Statistician of the OECD from 2001 to August 2009, president of Istat from August 2009 to April 2013. From 28 April 2013 to 22 February 2014 he was Minister of Labor and Social Policy of the Letta government.

He is co-founder of the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS), a network of over 290 subjects of Italian civil society, of which he was Spokesperson until February 13, 2021.

He is Full Professor (on leave) of Economic Statistics at the University of Rome “” Tor Vergata “”, where he taught Statistics and Analysis and Policies for Sustainable Development. He was Professor of Sustainable Development at the LUISS University and the National School of Administration (SNA), Senior Fellow of the LUISS School of European Political Economy, Associate Senior Research Fellow of the Center for European Policy Studies. He collaborated with the Joint Research Center of the European Commission.

Until January 2021 he was president of the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board (ESGAB), the body that supervises the functioning of the European Statistical System, member of the Executive Committee of the Club of Rome, of the Global Happiness Council, president of the Commission for the drafting of the Report on the unobserved economy and on tax and social security evasion of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and member of the Scientific Committee of the Parliamentary Budget Office (UPB). Before assuming the ministerial office he was a member of numerous boards of foundations and national and international organizations.

In recent years he has been a member of the Global Commission on the Future of Work of the International Labor Organization, of the High-Level Expert Group on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress (HLEG) established by the OECD, of the Independent Commission for Sustainable Equality (ICSE).

In October 2014 he was appointed “Knight of the Grand Cross of Merit of the Republic”.

In May 2020 he is in charge of the Futura Network project (on the initiative of the ASviS).
