From 2006 to 2009 Gaetano Cortese was Ambassador of Italy to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Permanent Representative of Italy to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPAC) in The Hague and from 1999 to 2003 Ambassador of Italy in the Kingdom of Belgium. Previously he served at the Italian Embassies in Zagreb, Bern, Havana, Washington and at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union in Brussels, as Minister Counselor.
