Holds Masters Degrees in English (Literature), Masters in Government Administration (University of Pennsylvania), USA, Masters in International Economics and Public Policy (John Hopkins University) USA, Fellowship at George Town University.
Joined Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1985.
Served at the Foreign Office in Islamabad as Director for Western Europe and Deputy Chief of Protocol from 1989-2006, Director General for European Affairs from 2006-2008 and Additional Foreign Secretary for Administration and Personnel / Head of Foreign Service Academy, Islamabad (2014-2016).
Held assignments abroad including: Brasilia (1989-1993) and Ankara (1999-2002).
Serves as Ambassador to Bosnia & Herzegovina (2008-2011), Ambassador to Bahrain (2011-2014) and Ambassador to Germany (2016-2020).
He has been serving as Ambassador-designate to Italy and Permanent Representative to the Rome based UN Agencies since April 2020.
He is married with two children.
