Marco Marzano De Marinis

Lead Global Technical Specialist in the Strategy, Production and Markets Department at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) of the United Nations.

Prof. Avv. Marco Marzano de Marinis since 2017 has been Lead Global Technical Specialist in the “Strategy, Production and Markets” department at the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), an International Financial Institution and Specialized Agency of the United Nations headquartered in Rome that focuses on financing agricultural development around the World.

Previously from 2012 to 2017 he was the Secretary General of the World Farmers Organization OMA. An international organization that brings together the world’s agricultural organizations, with the aim of protecting the economic interests and development of about 1.5 billion farmers and a rural community of 3.2 billion people.

He was Special Advisor to UN Secretary-General Dr. Antonio Guterres on Antibiotic Resistance issues; and Advisor on Climate Change Issues in Agriculture to former UN Secretary-General Dr. Ban Ki Moon; and from 2015 to 2017 he was Vice-Chair of the Steering Committee on Trade Capacity and Standards of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, UNECE.

Prior to his appointment at WTO, he worked from 2003 to 2012 at: the World Intellectual Property Organization, WIPO, a United Nations Specialized Agency based in Geneva, Switzerland, serving as Counselor; from 2000 to 2003 at the European Commission, DG Internal Market, Brussels, Belgium, and; DG Research, IPR Helpdesk in Alicante, Spain; and from 1998 to 1999 at the Legal Department of the International Trade Center UNCTAD/WTO, Geneva, Switzerland.

Prof. Marzano de Marinis is a qualified lawyer and has taught Intellectual Property Law at the Faculty of International Studies of the Second University of Naples “Federico II”; at the Faculty of Political Science of the Luiss Guido Carli University and is Professor of Business Management of Innovation at the University of Technology of Panama. At the Faculty of Law of Tor Vergata he has taught Fundamental Freedoms of the European Union and Migration Law. He is also the author of numerous publications.
