Director of Archeo magazine
Andreas Maximilian Steiner, born in Hünfeld (Germany) on 28 July 1955, lived and studied in Frankfurt am Main. In 1975, after a stay in the United States, he moved to Rome, where he still lives and works.
In 1985, together with the scientific director Sabatino Moscati, he designed the magazine «ARCHEO – Attualità del passa», the monthly magazine published by the De Agostini Geographical Institute dedicated to archeology and ancient history, whose first issue appeared in March of the same year. From the first issue he coordinated the work of the magazine as editor-in-chief and, later (after the death of Sabatino Moscati), as director.
Since 2009 he has also taken over the direction of the magazine «MEDIOEVO – A past to be rediscovered», dedicated to the history and art of the Middle Ages.
He is the author of numerous reports and monographs on the civilizations of the Near East and the ancient Mediterranean. Furthermore, the protection of Italy’s historical-artistic, archaeological and landscape heritage is at the center of his interests and journalistic commitment.
