Beyond the Wider Mediterranean: IMEC’s Role in the Italian Strategy

One year after its launch, IMEC has demonstrated all its necessity and importance as a reflection of the destabilization produced by the Houthis along the Europe-Asia geoeconomic routes that pass through the Red Sea. The value of the IMEC corridor must therefore be reasoned on the possibility of creating a new connectivity route. But it must also be imagined how it becomes representative of an emerging geostrategic concept: the Indo Mediterranean. For Italy, it is not only a multiplier of economic-commercial security, but IMEC also becomes a vector of international politics, at a time when the concept of the Wider Mediterranean becomes limited and limiting, with a view to the disruptive development of the environment strategy of the Indo Pacific.
