Michele Lanotte is currently Deputy Head of the “Retail Tools and Services” Service, former director of the Innovation Lab of the Bank of Italy. Born in Barletta on 10 October 1968, he graduated in Economics and Commerce and specialized in Law and Economics of the European Communities.
He joined the Bank in 1995 in the Central Administration Supervision offices where he deals with prudential regulations concerning banks and financial intermediaries.
In 2009 he was seconded to the Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission in the “Task Force on Financial Crisis” where he dealt with the restructuring plans of the main European banking groups. In 2012 he gained a second experience at the Directorate General for the Internal Market and Financial Services to follow the work relating to the founding regulation of the Single Supervisory Mechanism.
Having returned to Italy, he follows the main dossiers regarding prudential legislation at a national and international level in the Supervision Department.
In 2021 he joined the Management of the Retail Payment Tools and Services Service where he took on the role of Operations Director of Milano HUB.
He has gained significant international experience within the working groups established at the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision, the European Commission and the European Banking Authority representing the Bank of Italy.
He has published articles and essays on the topics he has dealt with, and has been a speaker at numerous conferences.
