Almost three years after the 7 October 2023 massacre by Hamas on Israeli territory, at least 59 hostages, mostly Israelis, remain in the hands of the terrorists, at least 24 of whom are reportedly still alive. The international community is mobilising for a cease-fire, given the possibly disproportionate reaction of the Netanyahu government, but not so much for the immediate release of the victims of a brutal and dramatic attack that cost the lives of some 1,200 Israeli civilians and soldiers.
