Asmae Dachan, an Italian-Syrian independent journalist, photographer, and writer. She contributes to various publications, including Avvenire, Confronti, Vita, Valigia Blu, Kritica, Oasis, Senza Filtro, L’Espresso, Venerdì di Repubblica, Panorama, and Al Jazeera, focusing in particular on the Middle East, human rights, interfaith dialogue, and labor issues. She has worked in Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Belgium, Greece, England, Ethiopia, and Tanzania, producing reports, investigative pieces, and photography exhibitions that have received international recognition. She is an adjunct professor of Multimedia Translation—Arabic and Interpretation for International Cooperation—Arabic at the University of Macerata and a council member of the Order of Journalists of the Marche region. She is a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, a Peace Ambassador for the Swiss University for Peace, and a volunteer first responder with the Italian Red Cross. She serves as a mentor for the Astalli Center—the Jesuit refugee service in Italy—for the Focus Journalism Project and the Literature and Exile Project. She is the creator and author of the blog Diario di Siria (“Writing to Rediscover the Value of Human Life”) and the podcast “Syria, War, and Jasmine.” She is the author of novels and poetry collections that have won awards and received honorable mentions in various competitions. Her latest work is “Syria, the Day After: Wounds and Hopes,” published by Add in 2026.
