Aruna Francesca Maria Gujral

Aruna Francesca Maria Gujral is the 11th Director-General of ICCROM and the first woman to hold this post. She took up her post in January 2024. Of Italian-Indian origin, she has over 20 years’ experience in the public sector and in international development, including more than 18 years at the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).

During her career at the FAO, she has held leadership roles in over twenty countries and across three different regions, working at national, sub-regional, regional and headquarters levels. She has gained extensive experience in the development and management of complex programmes, strategic planning, governance and public policy, as well as in resource mobilisation and the building of multi-stakeholder partnerships.

Before joining the FAO, she worked at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, the University of Trieste and the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris.
