Journalism Course: “Europe. Perception of security and the new world order”

In an increasingly unstable world, marked by regional wars, competition between major powers, hybrid threats, and climate crises, Europe finds itself redefining its role within a world order undergoing profound change. At the heart of this reflection is a crucial question: what does “security” mean today for Italian and European citizens? How is it portrayed by the media to public opinion, thus also influencing the political and strategic choices of our leaders?

This training course for journalists aims to investigate the relationship between public perception of security, European defense and resilience policies, and the new international political landscape. The challenges posed by the return of conventional warfare on European soil, terrorism, disinformation, energy dependence, and technological vulnerability will be discussed. At the same time, we will seek to understand how Europe can actively contribute to building a more stable, cooperative, and multilateral global order without renouncing its democratic identity and respect for human rights. Through an interdisciplinary perspective, combining geopolitics, sociology, communication, and European affairs, the panel will offer tools for understanding how the perception of “security” is changing in the minds of citizens and, consequently, how it influences the strategies of decision-makers.

The course is open to all journalists and 4 training credits will be awarded upon completion. Places are limited, so please book by October 12, 2025, at the latest. The course is part of the Festival of Diplomacy program and is organized in collaboration with the PIUE Association (Third Party Training Organization).
