How are technological innovation, inclusion and international security reshaping the future of foreign policy?
At a time of growing geopolitical tensions and rapid technological change, questions of inclusion, representation and access to opportunities are becoming increasingly important to international cooperation. Artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies are transforming economies, institutions and societies, creating new possibilities while also introducing new inequalities and vulnerabilities.
Over the past decade, gender-responsive foreign policies, the Women, Peace and Security agenda and broader inclusion frameworks have sought to strengthen participation and representation in international affairs. Yet their implementation remains uneven, and their objectives are increasingly debated in a changing political and geopolitical environment.
This roundtable brings together experts from international organisations, foreign policy, security, development and academia to examine how these different transformations intersect. Starting from the Italian experience and expanding to international perspectives, the discussion will explore the achievements and limitations of existing inclusion policies, the impact of technological innovation on social and economic inequalities, and the role of inclusive approaches in strengthening international institutions and cooperation.
Particular attention will be given to the practical implications for diplomacy, international security, economic development, food security and the governance of emerging technologies.
Rather than assuming a single approach or policy consensus, the roundtable aims to encourage an open exchange of perspectives, experiences and practical lessons on how innovation and inclusion can contribute to more effective, resilient and cooperative international governance.
The event will feature opening contributions from invited speakers, followed by a moderated roundtable discussion and questions from the audience.
Organised within the framework of the 2026 Festival della Diplomazia, the event is hosted by the Institute of Future and Innovation Studies (IFIS) at John Cabot University, in collaboration with Women in International Security (WIIS) Italy and with the participation of experts from the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), FAO and academia.
