Aristotle stated “Law is order, and good law is good order.” but in today’s world where everything happens at the blink of an eye, where power is no longer only in the hands of the rulers but also in the public, the media – what is the true global order? Looking back to the origins of the état de droit – it ensured that political power has to follow clearly defined procedures and legal forms. Nowadays its reference has extended to the field of technology and guaranteeing that its used in a sense as to not violate the human rights and to allow all social groups to apply it to boost their wellfare. The development of AI has caused for concerns on the ethical use as well as the threat to humanity as a whole, which has led to the establishment of international frameworks to govern its applications. It is indeed true that new technologies had made the life of millions of people easier and are of huge benefit for humanity, however they are two-faced as a coin. The negative side being for instance the numerous cybercrimes. This has forced the lawmakers to adopt new laws as to secure the protection of individuals in the digital space. Nevertheless, unfortunately, discourses occur not only on the online world. We are witnessing armed conflicts in more than one part of the globe, protests, violation of human rights. Putting the focus on overcoming them – not only domestic and international laws are used to restore the order. Social media, journalism, the practice of activism through multinational movements have raised awareness and through collective action serve justice to the party whose wellbeing has been violated. These new methods have indeed proven to be useful, however they have also enlarged power in a sense that it can be held by a president in office and almost equally and even dangerously by a hacker in their own home. Taking into consideration all current events, recent trends and the world affairs in general, a person would ask themselves “what is the new global order?” and might not be able to give an exact answer as it keeps evolving and reshaping every minute.
