Alessandro Minuto Rizzo

Alessandro Minuto-Rizzo is an Italian diplomat and essayist who has devoted his long career to transatlantic institutions and global security.

He currently serves as President of the NATO Defence College Foundation, an institution he founded in 2011 to promote geopolitical research, strategic analysis and international dialogue. In this capacity, he continues to work as a respected commentator and author of specialist essays focusing on the dynamics of the Atlantic Alliance and contemporary global conflicts.

Previously, Ambassador Minuto-Rizzo rose to the highest echelons of international diplomacy, serving as Deputy Secretary-General of NATO from 2001 to 2007, a period during which he also acted as Acting Secretary-General between late 2003 and early 2004. Prior to this prestigious senior post in Brussels, he led the Italian diplomatic mission to the European Union’s Political and Security Committee in 2000 and headed the External Relations Office of the European Economic Community in the 1980s.
