Antonio Villafranca

ISPI Vice President for Research.

He directs the research activity of the Institute and is Co-Head of the Europe and Global Governance Observatory. At ISPI he coordinated various research projects funded by Italian institutions (such as the International Policy Observatory of the Italian Parliament) and by the European Parliament and Commission (Gr: een, Rastanews, Trade and Economic Relations with Asia, and Parlatrade).

Since 2001, he has taught International Relations at Bocconi University in Milan where he was lecturer of European Economic Policy (2015-2018). He also taught ‘Structure of International Society’ at IULM University.

He has produced numerous publications on world and European economics and governance including: EU Economy: Fit for the Future? (with C. Altomonte), ISPI, 2023; New Fiscal Rules: The EU after Covid and the War (with F. Bruni and D. Tentori), ISPI, 2022; Europe in Identity Crisis. He is an economist by training and specialized in economics and international relations at the Catholic University of Milan, which awarded him the Agostino Gemelli Prize.

He is project manager “NEXT-Empowering Future Leaders” and curated for ISPI the Think7 Italy (T7) in 2024 and the Think20 Italy (T20) in 2021.
