Born in La Spezia, he leads the Italian delegation of the Group of Socialists and Democrats at the European Parliament. At 28 he took part in the European elections and was elected in the North-West constituency. In 2016, Forbes magazine listed him among the most influential under 30s in EU politics. Furthermore, in March 2018 he received the award as best MEP of the year (MEP Awards) in the Employment and Social Affairs category, for his extensive work on youth unemployment. In 2019 he was reconfirmed as an MEP with more than 50 thousand preferences and in the new mandate he dealt with the European Social Fund Plus, digitalisation and artificial intelligence.
