Ambassador of Italy to Hungary

Giuseppe Scognamiglio, born in Naples on 27 October 1967, graduated in 1992 in Business Administration from the University “Luigi Bocconi”. In the same year he obtained the CEMS Master (Community of European Business Schools). Following a competitive exam, he entered his diplomatic career on 3 July 1995. After an initial assignment at the General Directorate of Personnel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Head of Contractors and Passport Department, since 1998 he has been at the Embassy in Havana, where he is responsible for the consular, commercial, cultural and cooperation sections. In 2002 he worked at the Italian Embassy in Cairo as responsible for domestic and foreign policy analyses, as well as consular coordination. In 2006, he returned to Rome to take up service with the Press and Information Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the office responsible for multimedia communication, relations with the foreign press and agreements with Italian news agencies. In 2011 he was Consul General in Buenos Aires. Since 2015 he has been Ambassador to Al Kuwait. In 2019 he returned to Rome, where he served at the Presidency of the Council with the role of Head of the Delegation for the Italian Presidency of the G20. Since 2023 he has been Advisor for International Affairs to the Deputy Minister for Business and Made in Italy Valentino Valentini. He was president of the Circle of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2025, he was appointed Ambassador of Italy to Hungary, a position he assumed on 29 September.  Since 2017, he has been an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Republic.
