Holger Roonemaa

Holger Roonemaa is an Estonian investigative journalist specializing in national security, geopolitics, organized crime, disinformation and Russian influence operations. He is Head of the Investigative Desk at Delfi Estonia and a Member Center Editor at the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).

Over the course of his career, he has worked extensively on cross-border investigations examining political influence, corruption, illicit financial networks and security threats affecting Estonia and the wider Baltic region. He has been particularly recognized for his reporting on Russia’s activities in the Baltic states, including espionage, propaganda, hybrid warfare and disinformation. He has participated in major international investigative projects involving journalists and media organizations from several countries. Among these is the Kremlin Papers investigation, which examined the internal workings and influence networks surrounding the Russian political system. His investigations have received numerous national and international journalism awards. He has twice been named Estonian Journalist of the Year, while his investigative team has repeatedly received Estonia’s

Bonnier Prize for Investigative Journalism, one of the country’s most prominent awards for investigative reporting. Roonemaa has also collaborated with organisations including the International
Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and other international investigative networks. In 2024–2025, he was selected as a Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan, where he continued his research and professional development.
