He is Full Professor of History of International Relations and Coordinator of the Research Doctorate. He is co-director of the Nuclear Proliferation International History Project and from 2014 to 2018. He was President of the Italian Association of International Historians
He was Fulbright student, NATO Research Fellow, Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute, Research Fellow at CSIA, Harvard University, Research Fellow for the Nuclear History Program, Senior Research Fellow at the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Visiting Professor at the ‘Institut d’Etudes Politiques of Paris and Public Policy Scholar at the W. Wilson Center.
Among his books: Italian Army in the Second World War, 1945-1950. The Importance limits of the American presence in Italy (Rome: Laterza, 1999), The nuclear challenge, Italian foreign policy and nuclear weapons, 1945-1991 (Bologna: Il Mulino, 2007).
