Marco Lupis

A journalist, war correspondent, photojournalist and writer, Marco Lupis was for many years the Hong Kong correspondent for the daily newspaper *La Repubblica* and for Rai.

Born in Rome in 1960, he has worked as a correspondent and special envoy all over the world, particularly in Latin America and the Far East, for leading Italian newspapers (Panorama, Il Tempo, Il Corriere della Sera, L’Espresso and La Repubblica) and for RAI (Mixer, Format, TG2 and TG3). He is currently a war correspondent and reporter for the Huffington Post and for the Swiss public broadcaster RSI.

Often working in war zones, he was one of the few journalists to cover the massacres that followed the declaration of independence in East Timor, the bloody clashes between Christians and Muslims in the Moluccas, the Bali bombings and the SARS epidemic in China, right up to the recent conflicts in Ukraine, Lebanon and Israel. Through his reporting, he has covered the entire Asia-Pacific region for over two decades, travelling as far afield as the Hawaiian Islands and Antarctica. He has interviewed many key figures in world politics, particularly in Asia, such as the Burmese Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and the Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, frequently denouncing human rights abuses in his articles.

His reports have also been published in Spanish, Argentine, Brazilian and American newspapers, and his books have been translated into Spanish, English, French, German, Russian, Portuguese (including Brazilian Portuguese), Slovak, Czech, Turkish, Romanian, Polish, Indonesian and Hungarian.
