Maria Chiara Malaguti

Full professor of International Law at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Milan/Rome, Italy).

She is currently legal advisor to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for commercial and investment law issues and the World Bank for the modernization of payment systems, financial markets and governance. She is UNCITRAL’s WG1 Chair on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. International arbitrator in particular for direct investment law, supports the Italian State Advocacy in the defense of Italy in all disputes concerning direct investments so far opened.
In 2020 she was appointed President of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law, UNIDROIT from 1 September 2020 and for the next five years. She is the first woman to be appointed to this post. In the past she has been a referenda and head of cabinet at the Court of Justice of the European Union and continues to practice law in Rome.
