Michele Vellano is Full Professor of European Union Law at the Department of Law of the University of Turin. He was director and member of the scientific council of the second level Master’s degree in Global Strategy and Security and the Master’s degree in International Law and Armed Conflicts, organised by the University of Turin in collaboration with the Institute for Advanced Defence Studies (IASD-CASD). He has produced extensive scientific work in various areas of European Union law, including, in particular, institutional aspects, economic, social and territorial cohesion, relations between the European Union and local authorities, common commercial policy and common security and defence policy. In the latter area, he recently edited the volume “Sicurezza e difesa comune dell’Unione europea” (Common Security and Defence of the European Union) and published an article entitled ‘The war in Ukraine and the resulting decisions of the European Union on common security and defence’ in the journal “Il diritto dell’Unione europea” (European Union Law) and another entitled “The apparent enigma of the mutual defence clause in Article 42(7) TEU” in “Quaderni AISDUE”.
