Salvatore Rossi

Salvatore Rossi has been President of the Board of Directors of TIM S.p.A and President of the TIM Foundation since October 2019.

He spent most of his career at the Bank of Italy, of which he was General Director from 2013 to 2019. He has held various positions since his hiring in 1976: first in Milan at the Supervision Office, then in Rome at the Research Service in 1979, of which he was Head from 2000 to 2007. From 2007 to 2011 he was Head of the Economics and Statistics Department, General Secretary and Deputy General Director. Between 2013 and 2019, he was part of the Italian delegation to both the G7 and the G20.

In 2013 he participated in the “Working Group on economic-social and European matters” (so-called “Group of wise men”) established by the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano.

He is President of the Federation between the Scuola Superiore Normale, Sant’Anna and IUSS, and a professor at LUISS. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation of the International Center for Monetary and Banking Studies (ICMB) in Geneva and of the Board of Directors of the Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance (EIEF).

He graduated in mathematics at the University of Bari and completed study trips on economic topics at the IMF and MIT.

Salvatore Rossi is the author of numerous articles and books, including: Competing in Europe; The balance of payments: Italy’s foreign accounts, the lira, the problems of the European monetary union; The new economy: the facts behind the myth; The Queen and the Horse; Italian economic policy 1968-2007, Controtempo; Finance trial; What Italy can do; Gold; Reason and Common Sense; Italian economic policy from 1968 to today.
