Sonia Lucarelli

Sonia Lucarelli is a Full Professor at the University of Bologna and a member of the Board of Directors of the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI). For the University of Bologna, she is the contact person for the MoU with NATO’s Allied Command Transformation and for participation in the Europaeum consortium. She has served on the Board and as Executive Secretary of the European International Studies Association; she was a Resident Member of the Institute for Advanced Studies of Bologna and a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute. A Bologna Ambassador since 2023, her research interests include the international role of the EU, European security, identity and foreign policy, migration, and global justice. She has coordinated international projects (including GLOBUS, PREDICT, GARNET, EU-GRASP) and received funding from NATO, the Volkswagen Stiftung, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the IAI. Her latest publication is the Handbook of European Union Governance (edited with J. Sperling, Edward Elgar, 2025).
