Former Chief of Defense Staff, IAI Scientific Advisor.
Enlisted in the Air Force Academy in 1965, he has covered all the ranks of his military career up to hold the position of Chief of Staff of the Air Force (2006-08) and Chief of Staff of Defense (2008-11).
He has also dealt with the most current issues of international politics as a scholar and academic, with particular with regard to the politico-military dimension of the European Union and the development of its capabilities to use the military instrument in the framework of external relations.
He was president of the Center for Advanced Defense Studies (2004-06) and vice president of the IAI (2011-19).
