Peacebuilding goes beyond simply ending violence: it means creating the conditions for a society to live in a stable, just and inclusive manner. Peacebuilding means addressing the root causes of conflict, rebuilding trust between parties and strengthening the systems that prevent tensions from reigniting.
Conflict resolution is an essential part of this process. It is based on dialogue, mutual listening and the search for shared solutions that do not merely extinguish crises but aim to transform relationships. Lasting peace cannot be imposed from outside: it must come from the communities themselves, from those who have experienced the conflict first-hand.
We need paths to reconciliation that focus on truth and justice, solid and inclusive institutions capable of guaranteeing rights and protection for all, concrete actions to overcome inequality and marginalisation, and above all the active participation of women, young people and groups often excluded from decision-making processes. Peace, after all, is not just the absence of war. It is the presence of opportunity, respect and repaired relationships. It is a commitment that requires time, will and courage, but one that can bring about profound and lasting change.
