G. John Ikenberry è professore di Politica e Affari internazionali presso l’Università di Princeton, nel Dipartimento di Politica e nella Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. È anche co-direttore del Centro studi sulla sicurezza internazionale dell’Università di Princeton. Ikenberry è inoltre Global Eminence Scholar presso la Kyung Hee University di Seul, in Corea. Nel 2013-2014 Ikenberry sarà il 72° Eastman Visiting Professor al Balliol College di Oxford.
Il professor Ikenberry è autore di sei libri, tra cui Liberal Leviathan: The Origins, Crisis, and Transformation of the American System (Princeton, 2011). Il suo libro After Victory: Institutions, Strategic Restraint, and the Rebuilding of Order after Major Wars (Princeton, 2001) ha vinto il premio Schroeder-Jervis 2002 assegnato dall’American Political Science Association al miglior libro di storia e politica internazionale. Una raccolta dei suoi saggi, intitolata Liberal Order and Imperial Ambition: American Power and International Order (Policy) è stata pubblicata nel 2006. Ikenberry è anche coautore di Crisis of American Foreign Policy: Wilsonianism in the 21st Century (Princeton 2009), che esplora l’eredità wilsoniana nella politica estera americana contemporanea. Ikenberry è anche curatore o co-curatore di quattordici libri, tra cui America Unrivaled: The Future of the Balance of Power (Cornell, 2002), The End of the West? Crisis and Change in Atlantic Order (Cornell 2008) e Unipolarity and International Relations Theory (Cambridge, 2011). Ikenberry è autore di 127 articoli su riviste, saggi e capitoli di libri.
Il professor Ikenberry è co-direttore del Princeton Project on National Security ed è co-autore, insieme ad Anne-Marie Slaughter, della relazione finale Forging a World of Liberty Under Law. Tra le sue numerose attività, il professor Ikenberry è stato membro dello staff di pianificazione politica nel 1991-92, membro di un gruppo consultivo presso il Dipartimento di Stato nel 2003-04 e membro della task force del Council on Foreign Relations sulle relazioni tra Stati Uniti ed Europa, la cosiddetta commissione Kissinger-Summers. È anche recensore di libri su affari politici e legali per Foreign Affairs.
